Over the past 20 years David has travelled to most of the major whisky markets and has an extensive knowledge on the history and composition of the industry including international markets.
His career in the Spirits industry began in the late 90s hosting whisky tastings and events at the newly launched Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. In 2000 he joined Paragraph Publishing as Tastings Co-ordinator and Journalist for the newly launched ‘Whisky Magazine’.
In 2002 David’s first book ’The Malt Whisky Guide’ was published by GW publishing and shortly afterwards he joined Wm Cadenhead’s as their Sales & Marketing Manager where he also had the responsibility of selecting all of the casks to be bottled. Whilst living in Campbeltown David researched and wrote ‘The Distilleries of Campbeltown’ (published by Neil Wilson Publishing in 2004)
In January 2005 The Creative Whisky Co Ltd was launched, bottling more than 1,500 casks of malt, grain, blended and international Whisk(e)y. The Creative Whisky Co Ltd began with just one cask purchased late in 2004. Turnover increased from £50,000 in the first year to £4.5 million in 2017. The business was sold in 2018 to an international consortium and David turned his attention to consulting other fledgling or established companies in the world of Spirits.
